Save money on Black Friday

blackIf you are a savyy shopper then you will be familiar with the term Black Friday. Black Friday is usually the last Friday in November which falls next Friday on the 28th. The internet and television is bursting with deals, reductions and sales as many retails turn Black Friday into a week of discounts and sales.

Where did the term come from?

Black Friday comes from our American brothers and sisters as it refers to the first Friday after thanksgiving when lots of people have their day off and venture to the shops. The retailers discount their wares to get people through the doors and Christmas shopping can really begin. The term black Friday relates to the nightmare gridlock traffic as people leave their homes in search of a bargain.

US deals or UK deals?

As Black Friday is bigger in the US than the UK you could find that paying the international postage still makes the item cheaper than if you bought it at home. Some smaller companies do not offer international shipping. To get around this problem you can use websites such as Bundlebox.com. This gives users a US forwarding address so they can use it for international shopping. Fees vary but if you find a deal it may be worth having a look. In terms of tax, this is usually 8/9% but it is usually included in the final price. As an international customer you may have to pay a Customs Duty but this only applies to certain items above a certain value. Use dutycalculator.com to work out what extra tax (usually 8 or 9%) you may have to pay.

Where are the best online deals?

These websites have specific Black Friday discount pages online: Amazon, Argos, Asda, Currys, Dixons, Very, John Lewis so we are hopeful that the deals live up to the hype. Amazon usually does not disappoint, on Black Friday last year 6’000 orders from UK customers were processed. This year we have heard rumours of average discounts of 40% and will be discounting the likes of: Xbox One Bundles; Sony 48-inch TV; Canon DSLR Camera; Nokia Lumia Smartphone; Selected Ariel Fine Diamond Jewellery; Le Creuset Cookware; BioChef Silent Juicer; DeLonghi Bean to Cup Coffee Machine; James Bond – 22 Film Collection; Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor; Marc Jacobs Sunglasses; Philips Shavers; Johnnie Walker Whisky Platinum 70cl; Korg Digital Piano; Emiglio Remote Controlled Robot; My Little Pony Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks Mane Event Stage Playset; Mr Men My Complete Collection by Roger Hargreaves; Disney Frozen Pyjama Set and Marvel Avengers Pyjama Set.

Argos are also holding a huge sale on stock from tech, toys, TV and homeware. Asda have also started dropping hints about widescreen TV, tablets, headphones, and children’s toys and games. Their sales are only available in store though whereas Tesco will be selling online and in store but they are holding their cards close to their chest.  Currys say  this year it is heading into Black Friday “with a bang”, and will be offering incredible savings online & across the store on everything from cookers, TVs and tablets to washing machines, fridge freezers & speakers.  John Lewis promises, “great value offers available across hundreds of electrical products including; tablets, laptops, televisions, small and large electrical appliances”. Very also promise great discounts on a variety of items in their online store and they are also offering free delivery.

So all in all, this Friday promises a great day of savings across the board. Don’t forget that you can buy extra items to sell on and make some money as people leave their shopping till the last minute. If you don’t like this idea then make sure you have a look at the offerings so you don’t miss out on saving a bit of extra money!
